I was looking through my photobucket for another picture but I came across these from 5 or 6 years ago. I figured you guys would get a kick out of them.
I'll let you guys guess what this red one was intended to be.
This one was inspired by the Renault Avantime.
A RWD wagon with slicks in the back.
A few fire trucks.
And a hot rod.
And a few miscellaneous Hot Wheels and other things.

I can't tell what the yellow car is designed after but it looks cool! That snow picture reminds me of my old Amazon Crossing.
(not my picture)

I always wanted that set. It seems I built my own version of that truck at one point.

If we're talking ultimate lego cars then Model Team FTW!!!
And yes, these and a few more are still in the folks attic.... I really need to get them over to my place already.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT BLAST FROM THE PAST!!!!!!! I only have one of the spring loaded axles left and it bugged the hell out of me that i didn't know the set, just remembered a yellow truck.

You have no idea, I went through an entire Lego wiki to find the building instructions to reassemble all my old sets.

I really like that Jeep and dragster alternate model for 5591.

I have to admit I was always partial to 5590, but that was the first I got and at that young point in my life the 1000+ or however many pieces it was seemed unreal.... And that helicopter was, in a word, bitchin'

The red one is a Saab 900 Turbo.

I used to reassemble and combine my ~1:43 LEGO Racers' series cars to design new ones before I found LEGO Digital Designer , so I haven't bought new sets in a while.

Wow, it's not but it looks more like a 900 than what I was going for. It was supposed to be a 911 but it's too big. I've done a better one since then but I can't find it.

I've never been able to run LDD but I know it's become an essential Lego tool. Those small cars are great for parts, I've bought a few just for the pieces. I try to stick to 4 wide cars in minifigure scale but a more classic Town style.

Since I grew up building cars in the smallish LEGO Racers' scale, the only size I can consistently build in LDD is that size. I've tried larger scales, but my detail and construction don't increase much with the scale.

Same here. I grew up with classic Town cars, even the 4 wides Lego is producing now are too big for my taste. I tried 7 wide and 5 wide but it's hard to do. There are somw impressive 5Ws and 7Ws out there though.

Almost everything I've built is at 4-wide, which isn't really a scale that can be used to make imitation versions of real cars.

Indeed, the best you can hope for are cars that vaguely resemble what you were trying to build.
